17-4 PH (precipitation hardening) stainless steel has around 15–17.5% chromium, 3–5% nickel, 3–5% copper, and a trace of niobium (columbium), which increases the precipitation-hardening ability of the alloy. In heat-treated (usually H900–H1150 condition) form, it provides tensile strengths between 930 MPa and more than 1310 MPa and yield strengths between 725 MPa and more than 1170 MPa, with good toughness and moderate corrosion resistance similar to that of type 304 stainless steel.
