Stainless Steel 309S is an austenitic stainless steel with about 22–24% chromium and 12–15% nickel and lower carbon (up to 0.08%) than regular 309. This composition has better intergranular corrosion resistance in welding and exposure to high temperatures without weakening the strength. It provides a tensile strength of about 550 MPa and a yield strength of about 205 MPa, as well as superior ductility and thermal fatigue resistance.
