Their standard composition consists of 18–20% chromium, 11–15% nickel, 3–4% molybdenum, and trace carbon content in 317L (up to 0.03%) for enhanced weldability. These types provide a tensile strength of approximately 515 MPa, yield strength of 205 MPa, and resistance to creep and stress rupture that is high. 317L offers better resistance to intergranular corrosion following welding. Their excellent mechanical and chemical properties make them particularly appropriate for use in applications where higher resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion is critical.
