904L stainless steel is a low-carbon, austenitic alloy that has about 19–23% chromium, 24–26% nickel, 4–5% molybdenum, and copper additions to increase resistance to reducing acids. It has tensile strengths of about 485 MPa and yield strengths of about 170 MPa, with good toughness and ductility. High alloy content in the alloy results in superior corrosion resistance to chloride-induced corrosion, stress corrosion cracking, and crevice corrosion over conventional 316 grades, and also weldability and thermal stability.
