904L stainless is a low-carbon, austenitic alloy with about 19–23% chromium, 24–26% nickel, 4–5% molybdenum, and copper additions that increase resistance to reducing acids and further enhance corrosion resistance. It possesses tensile strength of about 485 MPa and yield strength of close to 170 MPa, accompanied by fine toughness and ductility. The alloy shows better pitting resistance, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking than the normal grades of 316, which makes it suitable for aggressive environments.
