The chemical makeup of Super Duplex Steel is generally 24–26% chromium, 6–8% nickel, 3–5% molybdenum, and additions of nitrogen, manganese, and occasionally tungsten, which give it improved mechanical and corrosion-resistant properties. The alloy has high tensile strength—frequently approximately 800 MPa—and yield strength of around 550 MPa, with superior impact toughness at even low temperatures. Its ferritic-austenitic microstructure is the cause of its superior performance in chloride-rich and marine environments. Super Duplex forged fittings also have good fatigue resistance and thermal stability, thus are appropriate for both high-temperature and cryogenic service.
